Location: Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
As we wrap up an invigorating three days at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, held from January 8-10, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, I find myself reflecting on the profound discussions and meaningful connections forged under the overarching theme, “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat.”
A Historic Gathering in Eastern India
Marking a significant milestone, this year’s PBD was the first ever to be held in Eastern India, aligning seamlessly with the Government of India’s ‘Purvodaya’ initiative. This initiative seeks to spotlight and spur development in India’s eastern regions, bringing them to the forefront of the nation’s growth narrative.
Global Participation for a Collective Vision
The convention attracted participation from over 75 countries, highlighting the global span and influence of the Indian diaspora. As one of the delegates, I had the unique privilege of engaging in dialogues that spanned diverse perspectives on how overseas Indians can contribute to our homeland’s progress towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’ or developed India.
Sessions and Insights
The sessions were a blend of strategic discussions, cultural exchanges, and policy dialogues, all aimed at deepening the diaspora’s engagement with India’s developmental agenda. From technology and innovation to education and healthcare, the insights shared were both inspiring and actionable.
Networking and Relationships
Beyond the formal sessions, the PBD provided a fantastic platform for networking. The bonds that were strengthened or newly formed during these three days are invaluable. Meeting fellow Indians from various corners of the world, each contributing in their unique way, reinforced the power of our collective efforts.
Looking Forward
As we move forward, the ideas and collaborations fostered at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas are set to accelerate not just Eastern India’s development but also the broader vision of a progressive, inclusive, and fully developed Bharat.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of such a landmark event and am eager to contribute to the actionable outcomes discussed. Until next year, let’s keep the momentum going and continue to make a difference wherever we are in the world.
